Taking an early affinity for athletics and science, he was accepted to Stetson University and, subsequently, the University of Florida College of Medicine. He took a keen interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery being accepted into a highly competitive Integrated CT Surgery program at Indiana University. During his second year of residency, Caleb was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer, metastatic at the time of diagnosis.
